Viotek is a relatively new player in the gaming monitor scene. The gaming monitors from Viotek are getting some well-deserved attention, thanks to their very competitive pricing. The VIOTEK GN27D is a 27-inch curved display that is aimed at gamers.
With a quad HD display, this is one of the most affordable gaming monitors on the market. If you’re looking for a QHD display but don’t want to spend a ton of money, read this VIOTEK GN27D review till the very end. Let’s see if this new curved display is worth your hard-earned money.
Design
The first impression of the VIOTEK GN27D is excellent. The monitor comes in a dark shade of gray that’ll seamlessly fit in anyone’s room. The bezels around the screen are pretty thin. We can’t call this a bezel-less display because the bottom bezel is thicker than the other sides (it hosts the logo).
Let’s talk about the stand. We have a sturdy, and durable stand that is made of aluminum. There are three legs, and to be honest, it does look aesthetically pleasing. You can tilt the display forward up to 5 degrees and backward up to 13 degrees.
The adjustments you can make with this monitor end there. You can’t swivel this display. There is also no way you can adjust the height of the monitor. For some people, these are essential. If you’re one of them, prepare to be disappointed.
With dimensions of 24.1 x 9.5 x 17.9 inches, the monitor doesn’t need a lot of space on your table. It weighs around 9.92 lbs so that you can move this around without any issues.
The display comes with VESA support. All you need are four screws, and you can hang this monitor on a wall of your choice.
VIOTEK GN27D Specs
The VIOTEK GN27D is a 27″ curved display that comes with a quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The curvature of the array is 1800R which is pretty standard in most curved monitors. Thanks to the curved screen, you can now have an immersive gaming experience.
The picture quality of the monitor depends not only on the resolution but also on the type of the panel. Here, we have a VA panel which is way better than TN panels. The picture quality is remarkable especially after acknowledging the fact that this is an inexpensive display for specs.
The VA panel in this monitor is exemplary. The quality of images on the display is beautiful. The viewing angles are also pretty neat. You can be at an angle, and you’ll still see the same images without any loss in quality.
Dead pixels are a severe problem in gaming monitors. Though most companies offer replacements, getting a display with dead pixels can turn your mood off. Luckily, the VIOTEK GN27D monitor doesn’t have any. We’ve gathered information from users, and pretty much all have said that they didn’t receive a display with dead pixels.
Is the VIOTEK GN27D good for media consumption?
Yes, it is. The monitor comes with a native contrast ratio of 3000:1 and a dynamic contrast ratio of 1000000:1. Thanks to the contrast ratio, you can see a lot of depth in the colors. The blacks are intense while the whites are brighter than ever before. You can even observe many shades of gray which is the hallmark of a good monitor.
The VIOTEK GN27D comes with support for 110% of the sRGB color gamut and 85% of the NTSC color gamut. This makes the display good enough for doing color related work. If you’re a pro photo or video editor, then this display will suit you well.
If there is one complaint, it’s with how bright the display can get. The monitor comes with a max brightness of 250 nits. If this is your first gaming monitor, then chances are, you will not have any issues with it. But if you’re coming from another display, you’ll notice it right away. Even at full brightness, there is a bit of dimness to it, which should be because of the VA panel.
VIOTEK GN27D Gaming Performance
A monitor can be great for a lot of things but can falter when it comes to gaming. Fortunately, the VIOTEK GN27D is not like that. The monitor comes with a refresh rate of 144Hz which is something gamers love these days. You can blame them if they are addicted to super smooth gaming. The results on this display are pretty similar, thanks to the above refresh rate.
The response time is on the higher side at 4.8ms. But to our surprise, this 27″ gaming display did very well when it came to ghosting and motion blurs. One of the reasons is the use of a superior Samsung panel.
The display also comes with AMD FreeSync. With FreeSync, you can match the refresh rate of your graphics card with the refresh rate of the display. Doing this can eliminate tearing which can lead to some pretty fluid gaming. If you’re a fan of online games like WoW and LoL, you will appreciate gameplay without any stuttering.
Other Important Stuff
The VIOTEK GN27D comes with integrated speakers. These are okay, but if you compare them with standalone speakers, you will notice that they are a bit basic. They should be fine if you have nothing around you. But if you can afford a set of good speakers, then we suggest getting them.
You can also turn on game plus crosshairs. These will stay in the middle of the screen giving you a competitive edge over your fellow gamers. It is great for first-person shooters (duh).
Connectivity
For connectivity, you get a display port 1.2 which is a pretty neat option to have. You also have an HDMI 1.4 port and an HDMI 2.0 port. To enable FreeSync, you have to use either one of the HDMI ports. These ports are great for instant connectivity.
The lack of DVI ports can disappoint some. This is because certain GPUs only come with support for DVI ports. If you have one of those graphics cards, then you can get a DVI to HDMI or DVI to display port adapter to get things going. There is also a headphone jack that can be handy at times.
Bottomline
That’s the end of this VIOTEK GN27D review. The gaming monitor we have here is a complete package. It has a curved screen, a quad HD resolution, and a hard-to-resist price point. The 144Hz refresh rate along with the FreeSync functionality can make your gaming worlds better. If getting a solid gaming monitor in a budget is your priority, then this one has all you need.
