Viotek is a name that’s been grabbing some attention recently when it comes to gaming monitors. Though they are not a household name for gamers yet, they sure are reaching there with their budget gaming monitors that have got a positive response. In this Viotek GN24CW review, we are going to take a look at a recent release from the same company.

The Viotek GN24CW is a 24-inch monitor with a full HD resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. That’s it. This monitor is aimed at gamers who want a budget solution to their gaming needs. If you are one of them, then we answer important questions you might have. Is this monitor worth the price? How good is the video output? Let’s discuss the answers.

Design

The Viotek GN24CW makes quite a first impression. It comes in a shade of gold which we’re not a fan of. We would have preferred a black color instead. But the monitor has super thin bezels that make their choice color not that big of a deal.

The stand is made up of aluminum and is solid. You can tilt the monitor front and back, but there is no moving on the sides. You can also adjust the height of the monitor, so it’s flexible in a few ways if not all.

The standout feature of this monitor is the curved display. It adds elegance to the display and makes the viewing experience a bit better. The thin bezels are equally impressive. Though the gold color is distracting if you are in a dark room, you will not feel those bezels at all, and that’s awesome.

The buttons on the display can be found at the bottom. Once you get a feel for the buttons, operating them becomes more natural. There is a mini menu on the screen that shows what you are changing with the buttons. Though not convenient, it gets the job done.

The Viotek GN24CW gaming monitor comes with VESA support. You can mount the display on the wall and enjoy media on it without any issues.

Features

The monitor comes with a VA panel and not an IPS panel. As a result, the viewing angles are not as impressive as in an IPS display. But it is not that bad either. You don’t lose a lot of color accuracy when viewing from the sides.

One of the major selling factors of the Viotek GN24CW is the 144Hz refresh rate. If you are coming from the monitor that has a 60Hz refresh rate, you will notice the difference right away. The elements on the screen just glide with the cursor. The animations are so smooth, and it will be a new viewing experience altogether. This also means that there will not be any flickering on the screen.

The monitor comes with a response time of 3ms. This response time is neat and gives you a blur-free gaming experience. If you like playing games where there is a lot of motion like in racing games, this response time is critical.

The built-in speakers are not that bad. The volume level of the output is pretty decent. But for gaming, we recommend you get dedicated speakers or a good set of gaming headphones.

Another touted feature is the AMD FreeSync feature. FreeSync syncs the refresh rate of the monitor to the refresh rate of the AMD Radeon graphics card. This synchronizing process reduces latency and eliminates shuttering or tearing during gameplay. FreeSync is very similar to what Nvidia offers in the name of G-Sync.

Performance

The Viotek GN24CW is a gaming monitor, and we should judge it by the way it performs during gaming.

Being a budget monitor, the Viotek GN24CW model has bought some impressive features like a 144Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and a curved display. Features like these mean that the manufacturer will have to cut corners somewhere else and that has happened in the resolution.

While 1080p is very good for most people, for gamers it is not that great. In spite of the resolution, the monitor does well in color reproduction and picture handling. The gameplay is smooth and lag-free, thanks to the 3ms response time.

For gamers, it is quite hard to come up with any issues. The gameplay is smooth, but you might find some rare interlacing when there is a lot of action going on the screen. Even for media consumption, we found this monitor pretty good. You can’t 4K movies on this display, but you sure can enjoy some full HD movies and Netflix on it.

Connectivity

As a part of cost-cutting, we don’t get a lot of ports in this Viotek GN24CW model. We have a display port 1.2 which is perfect for hooking this display with a desktop or even a laptop. There is an HDMI 2.0 port as well.

Bottomline

For a budget gaming monitor, the Viotek GN24CW does an excellent job. Finding a mainstream display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time at this price is going to be an uphill task. If you are looking for a budget 1080p display that gives you a myriad of high-end features, then this one here is a pretty good option.
