Are you on the hunt for a gaming monitor in a tight budget? If you answered yes, then you’re in the right place. The ViewSonic VX2452MH is a super budget monitor that comes with all the necessary stuff you need for a neat gaming experience. You don’t get any bells and whistles but at this price point, we really don’t care.

In this ViewSonic VX2452MH review, we are going to see why this monitor always comes up when there is a discussion about budget gaming displays. Can this monitor compete with other monitors in the same price range? Is it really worth the money? Let’s find that out in the full review below.

Design

ViewSonic VX2452MH gaming monitor review

When it comes to design, the ViewSonic VX2452MH is rather underwhelming to look at. It still has the same old design elements and doesn’t look anything like the gaming monitors you’ll find on the market. The bezels on this display are thick and to make it worse it is glossy which reflects light right in your viewing direction.

The construction of the monitor is also not the most premium work. The monitor has plastic in most areas and it is not that premium-looking. But considering this is a budget device, we can overlook this simple design.

The stand is made up of aluminum and also comes with a glossy black finish. It does a good job and holds the monitor without any wobbling. Even when you push the monitor, you can see the monitor holding its ground. The stand, however, doesn’t give you a lot of options to play. You can tilt the display forward and backward. You can’t swivel, pivot or even adjust the height of this display. If you would rather mount the display on the wall, you can do so by making use of the VESA mount. \

The monitor comes with a pair of inbuilt 2W speakers. These speakers are not mindblowing by any means but they do come in handy when you don’t have any speakers with you. If you don’t mind mediocre sound, then these speakers will be good enough for you. If you’re an audiophile, then we suggest getting something better.

You can find the buttons for on-screen controls on the right side of the display, underneath the bezel. With these buttons, you can control the basic stuff like brightness, contrast, color temperature, and other stuff. Overall, we have a monitor with an aged design. But is design everything? How good is the monitor in real-life performance?

ViewSonic VX2452MH Specs

The ViewSonic VX2452MH is a 24″ monitor that comes with a full HD resolution. It has an anti-glare coating on the screen, so you’re not going to get reflections from the screen like in the bezels. Even though this is a budget monitor, it can get quite bright around 300 nits. So you can take this monitor into a brightly-lit room and still get a good viewing experience.

What’s the panel in the ViewSonic VX2452MH? Being a budget gaming monitor, the ViewSonic VX2452MH comes with a TN panel as one would expect. The TN panel is not as impressive as the IPS panel and comes with known drawbacks. However, the monitor makes up for it with the 50M:1 contrast ratio.

This contrast ratio brings deep blacks to the picture. You get excellent colors and even the grayscale performance of the monitor is impressive for the price. With these colors, the monitor is perfectly suited for watching movies and streaming online content. The viewing angles are not that great, but we can’t expect for more at this price point.

ViewSonic VX2452MH Gaming performance

According to the spec sheet, the monitor comes with a refresh rate of 60Hz. But real-life performance suggests that the ViewSonic VX2452MH model operates with a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 50Hz to 75Hz. The fact that you get a little more than the standard 60Hz is a nice thing to have.

The response time is another spec that makes or breaks a gaming monitor. Here, we have a response time of 2ms which is quite good. Along with the refresh rate, the response time offers you solid gaming experience. Motion blur and ghosting are reduced to a minimum which is great if you like playing fast-paced games like racing and RPG shooters.

The color profile of the monitor might not be the best out of the box. SO take some time to calibrate this monitor to suit your style. Other than that, this monitor does okay when it comes to gaming. For the price, you’re not going to find a better gaming monitor.

One disappointment here is that the monitor does not ship with support for AMD FreeSync or G-SYNC. With adaptive sync, you can get a more fluid gaming experience and unfortunately, that’s not the case here.

Other Features

One of the more interesting features in the ViewSonic VX2452MH model is the game mode. The game mode helps in improving the visibility in dark scenes. If you play games that are primarily set in dark backgrounds, this feature can come in handy to give you a competitive advantage.

When it comes to connectivity, the ViewSonic VX2452MH does give you several options. You get an HDMI port, a Display port, and also a DVI port as well. The lack of USB ports is baffling but it is what it is. There is also a headphone jack as well.

Bottomline

The ViewSonic VX2452MH is a simple gaming monitor for people who are on a tight budget. It doesn’t have the specs or the design elements of a high-end monitor, but it does make up for that in performance. The 2ms response time and the dynamic refresh rate offer a more than a decent gaming experience. If you’re looking for a budget gaming display, you can’t get a better monitor.
