Author's Rating
Some monitors are affordable, but they fail when it comes to colors. When you’re in the profession of dealing with accurate colors, you need a display that has accurate colors and doesn’t break your bank. The ViewSonic VP2768 is one such monitor.
This ViewSonic VP2768 review will talk about the features, performance, and worth of this display. The hardware alone makes this monitor a good recommendation for a lot of designers and editors. But how does this display fare in real life? Read the full review below and find that out.
Design
Out of the box, you see a black enclosure that has a matte finish to it. It subtlely gives a business look which is what this monitor is intended for. Surrounding the screen, we have super small bezels that are only 2mm in size. The inner panel edges also are of the same size, but they do not disturb the user’s viewing experience.
When taking the bezel-less route, you will see that most products have a think bottom bezel where they place the company’s logo. In this case, they have avoided that and have gone with a clean look.
We think that’s a brilliant move and it contributes to the overall aesthetics of the monitor. Since this is a monitor designed for business professionals, this clean look speaks the language.
On the back side, you will find all the OSD buttons. They are easy to locate and use to change the settings of the display as per your need. One of the best design elements of this monitor is the position of the ports. They are down-facing which means it is easy to connect and manage.
The ViewSonic VP2768 doesn’t come with any integrated speakers. Usually, in this price range, you’ll see integrated speakers included. But in most cases, the built-in speakers are not that great. So you really don’t miss anything with the absence of the speakers. There is, however, a headphone jack which is useful to plug in and enjoy the content you love.
All-around Flexibility
One of the most stylish features of the ViewSonic VP2768 is the stand. It is an aluminum stand and is pretty durable. It holds the display well and responds well to minor wobbles. You can do pretty much any type of adjustment with this monitor. You can adjust the height, swivel the display right or left, tilt the screen front and back, and also pivot this into a vertical display as well.
With dimensions of 8.5 x 21.3 x 24.1 inches, the monitor weighs about 15 lbs. This is not the lightest display you’ll lift, but that’s how much a 27″ display weighs.
The ViewSonic VP2768 is also VESA compatible. With the help of a few screws, you can mount this gorgeous display on any wall in your home.
ViewSonic VP2768 Specs
The ViewSonic VP2768 is a 27″ monitor that comes with a quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The panel we have here is an IPS one, and it does a great job when it comes to retaining the details on the screen.
One of the main reasons this monitor is not for gaming is because of the response time. We have an unimpressive 14ms for response time which is just not good enough for gaming.
Rather than focusing on gaming, ViewSonic has worked on obtaining a vibrant image that is more accurate to the original. This is enabled by the 14-bit LUT present.
Out of the box, the performance of this display is more than just impressive. Not many monitors do great with just factory settings. Initially, the contrast ratio is about 1050:1 which leads to accurate, vibrant colors. The monitor has a maximum brightness of 345 nits which is better than many monitors on the market.
The colors of this display, with a delta E of 1.7, makes this a good choice for editors and designers. With excellent coverage of the sRGB color gamut, the images on the display are very life-like.
With a pixel density of 108 PPI, the monitor is also great for reading blogs and other publications online. The texts are clear and sharp.
ViewSonic brings in a feature called uniformity correction which is usually found in expensive and professional monitors. Though it is great for correcting the mistakes on the screen, usage of this feature can bring down the contrast ratio to about 450:1. This is much lesser when compared to the typical contrast ratio of 1050:1. If you’re not sure how to make use of the feature, you can just turn it off.
The color uniformity function works in color spaces like sRGB, SMBTE-C, Rec. 709, and EBU.
Gaming on the ViewSonic VP2768
If you’re a gamer, not all hope is lost. We have a feature called the low input lag feature. This feature helps to increase the responsiveness of the display. Without the use of this feature, the response time can be as bad as 20ms. With proper calibration of the function, you can get around 13ms which is not bad for light and mid-range games.
As the ViewSonic VP2768 is not a gaming monitor, you will not find features like the FreeSync. This monitor is made for accurate representation of colors. It is made for people who love to work with colors. If you’re a gamer, then you should go for a proper gaming monitor.
ViewSonic VP2768 Connectivity
There are a lot of options for connectivity on the ViewSonic VP2768 monitor. You get a couple of HDMI 1.4 ports. These ports are so easy to use, and you can hook this display to a PC or laptop in just seconds. We recommend using the HDMI ports as they offer the best clarity of images.
In addition to the HDMI ports, there is also a display port and a mini display port. You will also find a type A USB 3.0 port which can also be used for some quick charging.
Bottomline
The ViewSonic VP2768 is clearly aimed at people who prioritize color accuracy over anything else. This 27″ quad-HD display is great for editing photos, videos, and also for binge-watching your favorite shows. For under $350, you get an excellent display that has a fantastic contrast ratio.
But the ViewSonic VP2768 is not a perfect monitor by any means. It is not a great choice for gaming. The overdrive feature can help in improving input lag and accelerate pixel transition. If you’re looking for a quad HD display that gives the best representation of picture, this one is here to stay
