A lot of people prefer curved displays for their depth in colors and immersive nature. The problem is, it is hard to strike a balance between features and price. In this Samsung C27F390FHN review, we talk about this new monitor that tackles this problem for us.
With a wallet-friendly price, the monitor comes with several features. You can also see that this display does not have any bells and whistles. If you’re looking for an affordable curved screen, this monitor might interest you. Read the full review to know more.
Design
The design department hasn’t done a lot of innovation here as the Samsung C27F390FHN model follows the design of its predecessors without any considerable changes.
The monitor comes with a glossy front panel that is surrounding by bezels that aren’t very big. The back side of the monitor has a matte finish and is a lot better to touch and feel.
The monitor is primarily made out of plastic, thanks to the affordable price point. The plastic is not the sturdiest out there but will do for most people.
The aluminum stand is durable and has a glossy finish. You can tilt the monitor to your viewpoint to a certain degree. But the lack of height adjustment can disappoint many people. Though the stand rest well, a little push results in a bit of wobbling.
The monitor comes with support for VESA mounting. This means you can mount this display on a wall and using it purely as a gaming device or merely a curved screen.
With dimensions of 24.5 x 9.8 x 18.2 inches, the monitor weighs about 9.7 pounds. It is easy to carry around which makes this a good choice for setups that are constantly on the move. The display also won’t take up a lot of space which makes it a good fit on top of any computer table.
Samsung C27F390FHN Specs
Before we dive into the performance of the Samsung C27F390FHN, let’s discuss the specs.
The Samsung C27F390FHN is a 27″ curved display that comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. With a full HD resolution in place, the pixel density does take a dive, thanks to the bigger screen.
The Samsung C27F390FHN’s refresh rate is 60Hz. While most monitors have a refresh rate of 144Hz, Samsung has decided to go with 60Hz on this. For the price, we can’t complain. The movements on the screen are smooth and should be good enough for an average user.
The panel we have here is a VA one. It is much better than the TN panel but is not as good as the IPS ones. The viewing angles are decent, but the distortion in images at various viewing angles is still there. If you want the best picture, then you should be positioned right in front of the screen.
One of the main selling points of this monitor is the curved screen. We have a curve radius of 1800R which is neat. Even some higher-end models might not be this curvy, but it is what it is. You get good curves on the sides when you are too close to the display, but it doesn’t affect the picture quality in any way.
The native aspect ratio of 16:9 makes this monitor an excellent choice for media consumption. But quite a few people are moving towards the aspect ratio of 2:1 which results in a small black bar at the top and bottom.
The Samsung C27F390FHN comes with a contrast ratio of 3000:1 which is excellent for a monitor at this price. The monitor also comes with a response time of 4ms, and a maximum brightness of 300 nits.
Connectivity
The monitor comes with a couple of connectivity options.
There are a VGA port and an HDMI port for connecting this display with desktops and laptops. Though these ports are perfectly fine, the lack of a display port is baffling as this is a monitor that is aimed at businesses.
There is also a headphone jack at the back which is handy. You also get a Kensington lock for added security as well.
Samsung C27F390FHN Performance
Samsung is known for its display technology, and you would expect this one to be a winner. This one is definitely a winner, but there are a few bumpy roads ahead.
Out of the box, there are minor adjustments that must be made to make this display an excellent one.
When it comes to the coverage of sRGB color gamut, the monitor only supports 97% of it. You’ll have to make manual correct with the OSD to improve this. Once you adjust the settings, the display is much better and is accurate enough to support 16.7 million colors as they advertise.
Gamma settings of the display also need to be meddled with. At first, you can see the color temperature of the display is pretty high which leads to a yellowish white on the screen. With a bit of improvement, the gamma settings are brought to the right levels which bring down the temperature as well.
For the price, the Samsung C27F390FHN does put up a good show. With a maximum brightness of 300 nits, the contrast ratio of 3000:1 can give you outstanding pictures. You can see varying shades of blacks, and the same can be said for grays as well.
To check the display’s contrast ratio, we filled the screen with a black wallpaper. We did notice that the screen is brighter at the center and it wears off towards the edges. While this is nitpicking, some might see it. To us, this didn’t affect gaming or media consumption in any way so you should be fine.
Other Notable Stuff
The display does not come with an anti-reflective coating. This means that you’ll get a bit of reflection on the screen. If you’re in a super bright environment, then there is nothing you can do about it even with the brightness cranked to a maximum.
Another critical feature in the Samsung C27F390FHN is the response time. It comes with a response time of 4ms which is not bad. For a typical gaming monitor, you’d expect a response time of 1ms or 2ms. But here it is 4ms.
Thanks to the 3-stage response time setting, the monitor effectively reduces any ghosting or smudging you might face in fast-paced games and movies.
Samsung C27F390FHN Review – Bottomline
The Samsung C27F390FHN is a solid 1080p monitor that comes with a curved screen. With a contrast ratio of 3000:1, maximum brightness of 300 nits, and a response time of 4ms, the display does offer a lot of value for the price.
If you’re looking to get the luxury of a curved screen at an affordable price, then the Samsung C27F390FHN 27″ curved display is a pretty good option.
