Finding impressive 4K displays in your budget is not an easy task. The LG 32UD59-B is a 4K display that presents itself as an affordable 4K monitor. The display comes with an impressive spec sheet and looks very neat on paper.
If you’re a gamer, then this LG 32UD59-B model should interest you. Even if you’re not a gamer, the LG 32UD59-B is a great fit for all things PC. You can consume media on this device and also do some incredible work on this display with regards to photo and video editing. Let’s dive into this LG 32UD59-B review and find out if this monitor is worth your hard-earned money.
Design
The LG 32UD59-B comes in a matte black coat all over the product. It has a stealth look to it and the monitor can easily fit into any room without looking like an outsider. The main material that is used here is plastic, but it doesn’t look like cheap plastic. You can feel that plastic but definitely not bad.
The bezels on the display are quite thin. It is not the slimmest bezels you’ll see in a monitor but this one surely sheds off some extra fat. As a result, you get a much better viewing experience.
The on-screen display can be accessed with the help of a multi-directional joystick that is placed beneath the bezel at the center. You will take some time getting used to this but once you do everything is smooth and intuitive.
Excluding the stand, the monitor has a pretty slim profile. You can easily move this display around as it weighs just around 16 pounds. If you don’t want to use the stand and mount your display on the wall, then you can do so as the LG 32UD59-B is VESA compatible.
Talking about the stand, it is made up of aluminum and is a pretty durable one. The stand is height-adjustable so you can adjust the height to suit your needs. Not many monitors come with height adjustment these days which makes this a nice feature to have. You can also tilt the display front and back but you can’t swivel or pivot which is disappointing.
Connectivity
The LG 32UD59-B comes with limited connectivity options and this is one area where the monitor doesn’t shine. For connectivity, you have a DisplayPort 1.2 and a dual HDMI 2.0 port. Both the ports are HDCP 2.2 compliant which is nice. Other than that, you get a headphone jack which might come in handy.
The monitor does come with inbuilt speakers. The sound quality is pretty average and is not something you want to have. It is better to go with external speakers than to listen to this monitor’s speakers. LG really didn’t make an effort here.
LG 32UD59-B Performance
As the name suggests, the LG 32UD59-B is a 32-inch display that comes with a UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. This resolution is perfect for the size and you can see the sharpness and all the details in the pictures, thanks to this resolution. The display has a refresh rate of 60Hz which is pretty standard in 4K monitors these days.
The monitor can get really bright. The maximum brightness here is around 300 nits which is not that shabby. A contrast ratio of 3000:1 gives this monitor a bit of character when it comes to the colors of this display.
The panel here is a VA panel and not an IPS or a TN panel. A VA panel is much better than your TN panel but falls short of an IPS panel. The viewing angles are certainly better than that of a TN panel display. You do, however, notice some color shifting when you look at the display from certain angles.
The LG 32UD59-B comes with support for 95% of DCI-P3 color gamut which is pretty neat. With some testing, you can see that the monitor can achieve only 99% of the sRGB coverage and that’s contradictory. The Delta E value out of the box is around 3.4 which is not that great, to be honest. This is mainly because of the cooler hue you get from factory calibration. You can correct this value to about 0.9 which makes this display so much better.
The gaming filters included here are great for plug and play users. You can access them using the OSD and most of them come with decent accuracy scores. If you have the time, you should make an effort to calibrate the monitor to your preference. Go through every setting and make this display completely yours. Having said that, you do get excellent accuracy from the presets themselves.
Though the display is rated a contrast ratio of 3000:1, the monitor reaches a maximum of 2560:1. You get deep blacks, bright whites, and excellent hues without any other issues. This contrast ratio makes this display pretty good for modern-day gaming. If you’re in a brightly lit room, be sure to place your display away from the light source as it could make the screen dim.
The LG 32UD59-B does a good job when it comes to dealing with ghosting. Ghosting is a real problem when you’re gaming or even when consuming media. The overdrive tool available in the OSD is not as useful as one might think. Meddling with these settings will only make it worse. For the most part, you won’t even notice anything. But if you do, there’s nothing much you can do about it.
What makes the LG 32UD59-B well-suited for gaming is the fact that it is FreeSync compatible. The FreeSync range in the LG 32UD59-B is between 40Hz and 60Hz, but this is a 4K display and for that, you get excellent results. The gameplay is a lot of more fluid, thanks to FreeSync.
Bottomline
The LG 32UD59-B is a well-priced 4K monitor and comes with a ton of features that make it worth the price. The display performance of this monitor is very impressive and will satisfy even the most demanding users. Whether it is gaming or media consumption or just pure work, this display has what it takes to get the job done. If you’re searching for a 4K monitor that can handle pretty much anything thrown at it, then the LG 32UD59-B is an excellent choice.
