Finding an IPS monitor without burning a hole in your pocket can be quite a challenge. If you take a bird’s eye view of the monitor market, some of the popular monitors are in the range of $400 to $500. This is why the LG 32MP58HQ-P is very attractive to us as it comes with a price tag under $200.

In this LG 32MP58HQ-P review, we take a look at this 32″ monitor that comes with a full HD resolution. One of the main selling points here is the IPS display. But is it enough to keep you interested? What other features make this display a better choice? Is this monitor worth the price? Let’s find out.

LG 32MP58HQ-P design

Design

When it comes to the design of the LG 32MP58HQ-P model, we can confidently say that this is one of the most minimalistic designs out there. The monitor comes in a dark shade of gray with a matte finish which shouts simplicity i.e. the ultimate sophistication.

Jokes apart, the clean finish of the LG 32MP58HQ-P does give it some character. It allows the monitor to easily blend into any room without standing out. The arc stand also takes up little space meaning you can place this display on any table without the fear of it taking up too much space.

The bezel around the display is not that big. It is not super thin as well. It is just the right size. The LG 32MP58HQ-P is definitely much better than the iMacs which have a super thick bezel. These thin bezels hardly interfere with your viewing experience.

The stand here is made up of aluminum. It is a sturdy stand and holds its ground well. You can tilt the monitor forward and backward, and that’s pretty much it. You can’t adjust the height of the stand and also won’t be able the swivel the display. In terms of adjustability, the monitor really struggles as the most that can be done is just tilting it back and forth.

The monitor comes with support for wall mounting though you might need some adapters as the usual VESA support is not the case here. Overall, a pretty neat monitor that well designed with the user in mind.

Performance

The LG 32MP58HQ-P is a 32″ display that comes with a full HD resolution. Like we’ve mentioned above, it boasts an IPS panel. With an IPS panel in place, the LG 32MP58HQ-P model will outperform all TN and VA panels out there.

The IPS panel comes with really good colors and gives you excellent output in terms of pictures and colors. The viewing angles are brilliant which means you can take a look at this display from the weirdest angles and you’ll still see the same picture with absolutely no loss in color accuracy.

Being a glossy screen, some of you will the display too reflective. Normally, we’d want a matte display for workstation monitor as it is the least distracting display. But here the case is different and there is nothing you can do about it. If you work in a well-lit environment, then you’re going to issues in this regard.

The monitor comes with a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz which is acceptable in this price range. This LG 32MP58HQ-P model doesn’t proclaim to be a gaming monitor. For a normal, regular use display, this refresh rate is more than adequate.

The contrast ratio on the display also makes up for excellent colors. LG sells this display as one with true to life colors. Though we don’t agree with that advertising, we can say that colors are pretty good and vibrant in nature. The blacks and whites are nice, and the grayscale performance of this display is more than satisfactory.

The monitor has a native aspect ratio of 16:9 which makes it excellent for the consumption of media. Nowadays, most videos come with an aspect ratio of 2:1 which results in a black bar on the top and side. That makes up for a theatrical effect, to be honest.

The display also comes with support for 72% of the color gamut. This is a decent amount of coverage but nothing spectacular.

Notable Features

The black stabilizer is one of the most impressive features you’ll see in the LG 32MP58HQ-P monitor. This feature understands when there is a dark scene on the display and improves the brightness of the scene to make it more visually appealing. This is more useful in gaming as you can see who and what is hiding where even in some of the darkest scenes in your favorite game.

The reader mode is another notable feature. We all know that modern displays emit a lot of blue light. The same is true here as well. With the help of the reader more, you can reduce the blue light emitted from the screen. This is especially helpful when you need to work on something or read an eBook over a long period of time.

The LG 32MP58HQ-P comes with improved on-screen controls that can be handled with the help of your mouse rather than using those cumbersome buttons of the monitor. This has made navigating the on-screen controls much easier. The split-screen 2.0 is another neat feature that allows you to split the screen on a hardware level. This is not dependent on any OS which makes it more usable.

While these are some nice features to have, there are some useful features that are not found on this display. The monitor does not come with support for FreeSync which is not that great for gaming. The LG 32MP58HQ-P monitor also lacks the quick charge functionality which can be disappointing for some.

Connectivity

The LG 32MP58HQ-P comes with limited connectivity options. There is a D-Sub input port and an HDMI 1.4 port. Being a modern-day monitor, you’d expect this device to have at least USB ports or two HDMI ports. But sadly, that is not the case here. However, you do get a headphone jack to plug in your headphone of choice.

Bottomline

The LG 32MP58HQ-P is a 32″ monitor that comes with an affordable price tag. It is only a 1080p monitor but it does that job exceedingly well. The colors are vibrant and accurate for the most part. Gaming and media consumption is very good use cases for this 1080p monitor. If you’re looking for an affordable, 1080p IPS monitor, then look no further.
