Welcome to this Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS review. This new laptop from the house of Dell is what we call an upper mid-range device. It comes with excellent specs that are much better than your mid-range devices and yet fall short of the high-end ones.

The Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS targets people who want a good deal of power in their laptops. They need to be able to run some high-end applications and also should be able to play some AAA titles. This is the target audience for this new notebook. While the specs look good on paper, how well does this laptop perform on a day to day basis? Let’s find out.

Design

Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS laptop

Dell’s XPS series has excellent design and the same is true for this notebook as well. They have nailed pretty much everything from the looks to even the smallest hardware element designs. The laptop comes in a dual-color scheme. The outside face of the laptop is in silver while the insides come in a matte black coat.

This dual-color approach does look good on the device and even makes it look premium. One of the striking features of this laptop is the super-thin bezel. Dell has shed the most part of the bezel and we have the thinnest bezel ever in a Dell laptop. This looks great and gives the laptop a futuristic look. As a result of this, the laptop’s footprint also has gotten smaller making it more portable as well.

The only problem with the small bezel is that it has forced the webcam to move to the bottom bezel. The position is a bit weird and you really don’t look good when making video calls as the camera points to your nose than at your face.

The keyboard here is a solid one. It comes with a good keyboard mechanism and allows enough travel to keep the typing experience pleasant. It does come with backlighting so no issues at the dark. The touchpad is a Windows precision touchpad. It picks up all your touches and reacts well the gestures in the Windows 10 OS.

Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS Specs

One of the best features of any Dell XPS model is that you get a stunning display. Not much has changed with that regard in this laptop. We have a 15.6″ display that comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This display has an IPS panel in place which automatically makes it a better display.

The screen can get really bright up to 400 nits which is pretty impressive in a laptop. The display is an anti-glare display which means you’ll not get any reflections even when working in a well-lit environment. Thanks to the IPS panels, you get excellent viewing angles from any angle which is neat.

We’ve already mentioned the thin bezels. Dell calls it the Infinity Edge display. With such thin bezels, your viewing experience is much improved. Once you start using a screen like this any other display with big bezels is going to look historic.

Raw Performance

The Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS is powered by an Intel Core i7 8750H. This is an eighth-generation processor from Intel and has 6 cores which makes it a pretty powerful chip. The base clock speed of this silicon is 2.2GHz and it can turbo boost itself to a max of 4.1GHz which is a lot of raw power.

With a 9MB cache memory, this processor is excellent when working on office docs and other simple activities. Based on the 14nm process, this is one of the beastly processors out there at the moment and the benchmarks confirm it. The processor scores 14255 in the CPUMark benchmark test which is impressive.

When it comes to daily performance, the processor does an outstanding job. You can run pretty much anything on this laptop without worrying about performance issues. Even some resource-hungry applications start up quickly and run well making this laptop suitable for heavy lifting.

In the memory department, we have 2 8GB sticks that are of the DDR4 type and have a clock speed of 2666MHz. This brings the total memory to 16 gigs which is adequate memory for an upper mid-range device in this age. It allows you to run as many apps side by side as possible. You can multitask your heart out without getting concerned about any sort of lag.

Coming to storage, we have a 512GB solid-state drive which gives you enough space for all your games and other important data. This is a PCIe SSD so you’re not going to get a performance that matches the NVMe SSDs. The writing speeds and reading speeds are way better than your traditional hard drives which are fantastic for day to day usage.

Gaming on the Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS

The Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS laptop comes with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti as its discrete graphics card. This GPU is based on the Pascal architecture and comes with a video memory of 4GB which is more than adequate for modern-day gaming.

The graphics card is a pretty good one in terms of gaming performance. You can most of the games with this GPU without any problems. If you want to play the latest and the greatest, then you’ll have to bring down the settings which is acceptable considering this GPU is two years old.

Here are some frame rates of games when played in high settings. This should give you a good idea of what’s possible with this laptop.

  • F1 2019 – 63 FPS
  • The Division 2 – 35 FPS
  • Anno 1800 – 40 FPS
  • Dirt Rally 2.0 – 45 FPS

Battery Life and Connectivity

If you’re someone who spends most of the time outside without access to a power outlet, then you’re going to love the Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS. The laptop, with light usage, can last for more than 10 hours which is pretty crazy.

With heavy usage, you won’t get a 10-hour battery life but you might get around 5 to 6 hours which is still impressive, in our opinion. Battery life is one of the major issues for any laptop that aspires high. But here in the Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS, you get excellent battery life making it a winner in comparison.

There is a ton of options when it comes to connectivity in the Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS laptop. There is a couple of USB 3.0 ports, a USB type C port, an SD card reader, an HDMI port, and also a headphone jack. The lack of an Ethernet port might be disappointing to some but the laptop does come with support for 802.11ac which can give you super-fast internet.

Bottomline

The Dell XPS9570-7996SLV-PUS is an excellent upper mid-range laptop. It comes with premium hardware that is complemented by good software. Whether it’s the processor or the GPU, they just knock it out of the park. The battery life is another reason to fall in love with this laptop. If you’re looking for a reliable laptop that’ll allow you to do some heavy computing and gaming, then this is an excellent choice. Highly recommended.
