This new gaming desktop from CyberPowerPC is not expensive at all (comparatively, of course).
If you are looking to spend $1000 on a gaming desktop, this CyberPowerPC VR GXiVR8060A5 model is actually a good choice, and it saves you more than a $100. With Intel latest generation chip as its brain and a discrete graphics at its heart, this gaming desktop is an excellent choice on paper. How about real-life performance? Is it really worth the money? Let’s find out.
Design
If you are used to gaming desktops from CyberPowerPC, then you would have noticed that not a lot a changed on the design front. The front and the left side panels are transparent and are made of tempered glass. The rest of the chassis is made from aluminum. The desktop measures at 18.5 x 17.9 x 7.9 inches which not very compact.
If you like to put on a show, you will love this design. With concentric LED circles, there is a lot of lighting you will find inside the desktop chassis. We won’t lie – it looks great. You can enjoy watching the internals of the desktop in all its glory.
The power button is found on the top part of the PC. To the right of the power button, we have a couple of USB 3.0 ports, and to the left, we have a mic and a headphone jack. All the other ports are located at the back of the device.
The keyboard and the RGB mouse we get along with the CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8060A5 model aren’t that great. If you are a casual gamer, you will be okay with it. But if you are serious about your gaming, then you should look at better alternatives.
Performance
The CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8060A5 is powered by an Intel Core i5 8400 processor. We can say with confidence that this chip is the best out there for gamers. The i5 8400 is a 6-core processor that has base clocking frequency of 2.80GHz. But when you are in need of more power, the processor can clock to a maximum of 4.0GHz which is plenty of processing power.
The performance of this Intel chip can be easily compared to that of the i7 processors from the previous generations. You can run pretty much any game on this device, and we can assure you that this processor will not be a problem. Apart from gaming, the processor is also excellent for everyday work. From light apps to heavy applications like video editors and IDEs, the processor can take care of them with ease.
The memory department comes with only eight gigs of DDR4 RAM. Though you can do a lot with this memory, 8GB at this day and age sounds stingy from CyberPowerPC. The good news is that RAM is getting cheaper by the day and you can easily upgrade it.
Another critical component that contributes to the performance of this gaming desktop is the solid-state drive. We have 120 gigs of SSD which enhances the overall performance. The operating system is installed in the SSD so booting up the computer takes only a few seconds. You can also add essential applications to the SSD so that they’ll load much faster.
Apart from the SSD, there is also a traditional hard drive as well. It comes with a capacity of 1TB which is plenty for a lot of people. If you are not a fan of the older drive, you can add more SSD as there is a slot available for that.
Gaming Performance
The CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8060A5 comes with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with three gigs of dedicated video memory. Though the GPU falls short in comparison with the 1070 and 1080 graphics cards, it still is one of the best options for a non-expensive gaming machine like this one.
Gaming at 1080p is an outstanding experience. At high settings, you can play games like Just Cause 4 (66 fps), Darksiders III (86 fps), Battlefield V (86 fps), Fallout 76 (60fps), Hitman 2 (70 fps) and many similar games with really good frame rates. If you have a good gaming monitor ready to be hooked up with this desktop, then the 1080p experience is going to be slick.
Another important thing about the CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8060A5 is that it is VR ready. Yes, if you fancy virtual reality, then pick up an Oculus or Vive as both are compatible with this gaming PC.
Connectivity
The desktop comes with all the wireless standards you would expect. It has both 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity as well. This means that you don’t have to use wires to connect external devices or even to browse the web.
What about ports? There are a ton of them. There are 6 USB 3.1 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, a mic and also a headphone jack. You also have an HDMI port, a display port, and even a DVI port as well.
Bottomline
CyberPowerPC does very few things wrong when it comes to gaming desktops. With this model, they have maintained their standard. With a price tag of under $900, this gaming desktop does exceedingly well. You can play pretty much any game on this machine with high settings, and that’s impressive for the price. If you are a gamer who doesn’t want to spend a lot, then this gaming desktop might be a suitable option for you.
