The ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 is a 13-inch ultrabook that is aimed at people who want a portable and powerful laptop at their disposal. ASUS’s ZenBook series has several successful ultrabooks on which this model is also based on.
In this ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 review, we take a look at the positives and the negatives of this new age ultrabook. If you’re looking for a powerful ultrabook, then this review is something you must read. Is this laptop worth your money? Let’s find that out.
Design
The ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 is one of the most stylish ultrabooks you can find. It comes with a sleek design and has a finish that is loved by tons of ZenBook users. If it’s not broken why fix it? The royal blue variant is indeed royal and brings some color to their lineup.
The laptop makes a very good first impression. The industrial design, the metal finish and the way the laptop hinges work, all of these give us the feeling of a solid product in hand. The fact that this one weighs just 2.6 pounds makes this one of the most portable laptops available. The model can also be seen as a direct competitor to Apple’s latest MacBook Air which is less powerful on paper.
ASUS calls the hinge the ErgoLift hinge. When you open the laptop, the keyboard is slightly higher in position, thanks to the hinge, and gives you a much better typing position. The keyboard is neat and comes with backlighting. The typing experience is pretty good for a small form factor laptop and the key travel is decent.
The touchpad is also different than in other models. Here, the touchpad also doubles as a virtual number pad. If you’re someone who works with a lot of numbers, this arrangement will save you a lot of time.
ASUS Zenbook UX333FA-AB77 Specs
Before we get into the numbers and features, let’s talk about the display. The display here is special. We have a 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. That’s not what impressive here. We have a NanoEdge bezel display which gives this screen a screen-to-bezel ratio of 95%. Slim bezels are a trend and ASUS knows how to keep up with the trend.
Regarding the quality of the screen, you can’t get a better screen with the same resolution. The colors are impressive, and the screen gets bright enough for the average user. The viewing angles are neat and you get excellent pictures from all angles.
The display is perfect for watching NetFlix, Hulu, and other stuff. If you like to edit photos and videos, the color accuracy of this display will come in handy. Overall a sweet little display that does its job.
The ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 comes with an Intel Core i7 8565U processor that has a base clocking frequency of 1.80GHz. This is a quad-core processor that can clock to a maximum of 4.6GHz. The laptop is not designed to reach the maximum clock speed, so that’s not going to happen even with Intel’s turbo boost in place.
For an average user, this processor is a lot of power. If you’re a light user, you’re going to use some basic applications like browsers, office apps, social media apps and such. The processor can go through these apps like a hot knife through butter. Even with resource-hungry applications, the processor does not struggle and delivers what the user wants.
The 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM works well with the processor and gives an excellent user experience. You can run multiple applications simultaneously without facing any lag. This RAM enables you to run apps that need a lot of memory for smooth operation. On the whole, if you’re an average user, you’ll be very happy with this processor-RAM combo.
Storage, Battery Life, and Gaming
For storage, we have a 512GB PCIe SSD. The ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 laptop is much better off with an SSD rather than a mechanical hard drive. With the solid-state drive, the performance of the laptop is breezy. The operating system boots up in a flash and so does other apps. With an HDD, you would be waiting an eternity for the same performance.
The battery life is one of the best selling points of the ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 ultrabook. ASUS promises a battery life of 14 hours. For a light user, the battery will last for about 10 to 12 hours depending upon the user and his computing habits. If you want to do real work, then your battery is going to drain a lot faster than usual. For a heavy user, setting your expectations around 5 to 7 hours would be realistic.
The ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 comes with an integrated graphics card. This means this laptop is not going to be your gaming machine. Though Intel’s integrated graphics cards have improved a lot over the years, they still can’t run some of the graphically intensive games with good settings. However, if you’re a light user, this laptop might be able to quench your gaming thirsts.
Connectivity
The ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 gives you all the ports you need for a complete computing experience. We have a USB 2.0 port, USB 3.1 gen A port, USB type C 3.1 gen 2 port, an HDMI port, a micro SD card reader, and also a headphone jack.
The laptop also comes with an 802.11ac WiFi card which allows you to connect to the internet sans wires. There is also support for Bluetooth to allow connectivity with external devices.
Bottomline
Overall, the ASUS ZenBook UX333FA-AB77 is a solid ultrabook for the price. It brings both style and substance to the table. The screen is gorgeous and is well-suited for media consumption. The processor and RAM allow you to do even some heavy lifting without any hiccups. If you’re a mid-range or a heavy user looking for an ultrabook, then this one is a good choice.
