The gaming monitor comes with an impressive array of hardware that immediately grabs our attention. Is this is the best gaming monitor in this price range? We know you have more questions like this. In this Asus VG245H review, we take a good look at this new ASUS display and find out why this could be your next gaming monitor (or not).

Design

Asus VG245H gaming monitor

The ASUS VG245H is a good-looking monitor. It comes in black and has a nice matte finish on the back with a gamified design that is aimed at gamers. The look certainly fits the description of a gaming monitor and will surely get the attention of people.

The bezels around the screen are pretty decent. They are neither small nor too big to disturb your viewing. Monitors these days comes with slim bezels that look great, but at this price, we’re satisfied with the size of the bezels.

One of the attractive things that grab your attention immediately is the stand. We have a robust aluminum stand, and it does a pretty good job as well. There is a hole in the stand that helps you with better cable management.

Where the ASUS VG245H stands out is that it comes with every adjustment possible. You can tilt the monitor forward (5 degrees) and backward (33 degrees). The monitor’s height can also be adjusted. You can lift the monitor up or down up to 5 inches which is neat.

When you present a lot, you’d love to have a monitor that swivels. The ASUS VG245H can rotate 90 degrees to the left and 90 degrees to the right. This is perfect for presentations. You can also pivot this display into a vertical one. It can be handy for a twitch chat (as a secondary monitor) or if you like to do some programming.

The monitor comes with VESA compliance, so you can hang this up on your wall if that’s your thing. With dimensions of 22.1 x 8.4 x 14.2 inches, the display weighs around 11 lbs which is not that heavy to move around.

Does the Asus VG245H have Speakers?

The ASUS VG245H comes with a couple of 2W integrated speakers.

The sound quality, however, is not that great. It is pretty basic. We recommend getting a good set of headphones or speakers for a better overall audio experience.

ASUS VG245H Ports and Connectivity

Asus VG245H connectivity

The ASUS VG245H is perfect for gaming consoles, but it comes with a selection of ports that makes it easy to hook this up with gaming PCs as well.

There are a couple of HDMI ports, a VGA/D-Sub port, a 3.5mm headphone jacks, and an audio line-in port. The HDMI and VGA cables can be found inside the box which is nice. You don’t have to spend anything extra for the cables.

We prefer using the HDMI port over the other as there is a better representation of pictures. Also, you can make use of the AMD FreeSync option only when using the HDMI port. Having two of them means you can connect two devices to your display at the same time.

ASUS VG245H Specs

The ASUS VG245H gaming monitor comes with a 24″ screen that has a resolution of 1080p. A full HD screen is perfect for gaming on a budget. Both consoles and gaming PCs work well with a 1080p display which is an added advantage.

The maximum brightness here is 250 nits. When you’re in a room that is well-lit, you need your monitor to have good brightness. This monitor passes that test. Also, with an anti-glare coating on top of the screen, you will see fewer reflections of you staring at the display.

We have a TN panel for the ASUS VG245H. The TN panel is not as good as an IPS panel. Though ASUS promises a viewing angle of 170 degrees, we did see some loss of picture when viewing from a different perspective. The best position for this display is right at the front.

The monitor covers 72% of the NTSC color gamut which is decent. While gaming is not an issue, if you want to edit photos and videos on this display, you’ll have to think twice.

Gaming on the ASUS VG245H

The ASUS VG245H does very well when it comes to gaming. The refresh rate of 75Hz is much better than your regular 60Hz. You can see better gaming dynamics.

The display comes with AMD FreeSync which can reduce any tearing on the screen when gaming. The FreeSync range varies from 40Hz to 75Hz and can be controlled with a utility. You can make use of AMD FreeSync when you use the HDMI port to connect the monitor.

The 1ms response time also plays a vital role in fighting ghosting and motion blur. If you love playing racing games or games with a lot of action, this response time improves the overall gaming experience without a doubt.

In addition to the above goodies, the ASUS VG245H also comes with their ‘Game fast input technology.’ This technology is used for eliminating input lag. Input lag is present when gamers use wireless controllers. Many other factors can affect the input lag as well. With this technology, ASUS eliminates or reduces input lag (user experience will vary).

Overall, gaming on the ASUS VG245H is a neat experience; If you’re a console guy, you can connect the display in a second and start playing. The PC route is, more or less, the same. With vibrant colors and excellent contrast, gaming is excellent on this display.

Other Features

You get the ASUS game plus technology which brings a lot of enhancements to the table. You can use the crosshair feature which is really useful in first person shooter games. There is also an FPS counter that displays the frames per second. This is useful if you’re trying to gauge your GPU or your consoles performance.

Flickers can be a real problem especially when you spend hours in front of the screen gaming. With the flicker-free technology, ASUS eliminates all the flicker which is essential.

Another neat feature is the addition of a blue light filter. When you’re in a gaming marathon, time flies. The blue light from the display can cause some serious damages like eye strain, headache, loss of sleep, and even permanent eye damage. This blue light filter comes in really handy and helps in limiting the blue light as much as possible.

Bottomline

The Asus VG245H is an excellent gaming monitor that comes under $200. The display is perfect for both consoles and gaming PCs which is nice. Thanks to the 75Hz refresh rate and the 1ms response time, the ASUS VG245H performs like a boss in gaming sessions.

With features like AMD FreeSync, Blue light filters, Flicker-free tech, Game plus add-ons, and more, ASUS scores in the features department despite the low price. It may not be a 4K monitor, but for a 1080p display, the ASUS VG245H does a fantastic job. If you’re looking for a sub $200 gaming monitor, this one is a pretty good choice.
