Acer’s new TC series is focusing on budget devices. The Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5, for example, is one such desktop computer that doesn’t cost you a lot of money but makes sure that the end user gets all the basic specs. If you are on the lookout for a budget PC, then this one should have grabbed your attention by now.
In this Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5 review, we are going to dissect this new desktop from Acer. The computer comes with a latest gen Intel processor at its helm. This makes this desktop a good fit for students, home users, and people who might need a backup PC. So how well does this machine fare? Let’s find that out.
Design
Acer breaks from its traditional box design for its tower and takes a slightly stylish approach. There is a V-shaped curve on the front face which gives the desktop a lot more character. It looks much better aesthetically as well. The power button can be found on the top in the form of a V-shaped button.
There is a DVD writer on the front which can be easily accessed. You also get a USB 3.1 type C port, USB 3.0 port, an SD card reader, a mic, and a headphone jack. All the remaining ports and connectors can be found at the back side of the desktop.
Design-wise, there is not much of a change except for that minor facelift. There is a vent for hot air to escape on the side which is something we’ve in most desktops. One nice addition is the inclusion of speakers. Though they aren’t the best in the business, it is nice to have something before you plug your regular speakers.
Performance
The Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5 is not a powerhouse by any means, but it has the legs to do some serious lifting. The desktop is equipped with an Intel Core i5 8400 processor. This chip belongs to Intel’s 8th gen of processor and is useful as some of the i7 processor from the 7th generation.
The main reason for that is that this one comes with six cores. With a base clock speed fo 2.6GHz, the processor packs a punch. When you need more firepower, the processor can be clocked to maximum clock speed of 4.0GHz.
For a light user, the processor is more than adequate. You can go through your everyday applications like Chrome, Office apps like Word and Excel, and even some desktop versions of social media apps. In fact, this workload is not very challenging for the processor in hand.

The processor can also do some serious lifting like running photo editing applications and programming apps. This makes this desktop suitable for mid-range users as well. However, heavy users have more demand when it comes to power. So it may not be a good idea to push this laptop towards heavy users.
The Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5 desktop is pretty good at multitasking. WIth 12 gigs of DDR4 2666MHz memory, you can confidently do more than one task at the same time. While this is good for a lot of users, some may feel that this is not sufficient. You can upgrade the memory to a maximum of 64GB which is a bit too much, in our opinion.
Gaming and Storage
This Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5 desktop is not for gaming. You may be able to do some light gaming, but that’s pretty much it. The reason for this is that there is no dedicated graphics card in this machine. You only have the integrated Intel UHD graphics.
Though integrated graphics have improved by a mile over time, they still aren’t capable of handling big AAA gaming titles. Even if you want a discrete graphics card, you will also have to change the power supply in place because we only have 300W PSU here.
When it comes to storage, the desktop gives you a lot of space in its 2TB 7200RPM hard drive. You can store anything on this desktop without any restraint. But the speed of the hard drive could be a problem for some. The only way to improve that situation is by including a solid-state drive to this machine. We highly recommend you do that.
Connectivity
Being a budget PC does not stop the Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5 from giving you a multitude of connectivity options. The desktop comes with 802.11ac WiFi connectivity which is excellent for wireless internet connectivity. There is also built-in Bluetooth which makes it easier to connect with external devices.
There are also many options when it comes to ports. There are 4 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.1 Type-C port, 1 USB 3.1 gen 2 port, and 1 USB 3.1 gen 1 port. You will also find a couple of HDMI ports that are handy for hooking up monitors with this machine. You also have a traditional VGA port for the same purpose as well.
Bottomline
The Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5 desktop is an excellent budget offering from Acer. It comes with all the necessary hardware that is more than enough for the average user. The desktop is an ideal choice for students and home users. Even some mid-range users might find this handy. If you are looking for a budget desktop solution that can compete with a more expensive machine, then this one is a good candidate.
